Frequently asked questions

Common questions from parents about 11+ Mastermind — the free trial, subjects covered, how the AI tutor works, parental consent for under-13s, data privacy, and pricing.

Is it free to start?

Yes. You can start practising for free with no card required — every child gets 10 free questions per topic plus one untimed test set. Premium unlocks every question and every test.

What age group is 11+ Mastermind for?

It's built for children preparing for 11+ grammar school and independent school entrance exams — typically pupils in Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6, aged 8 to 11.

What devices can my child practise on?

11+ Mastermind works in any modern web browser on a laptop, desktop or tablet, and there are native iOS and Android apps too. Progress syncs across every device your child signs in on.

How do I set up an account for my child?

Sign up with an email and password, then complete a short onboarding step with your child's name and school year. If your child is under 13 we'll also ask for a parent or guardian's email so you can approve the account.

What subjects are covered?

Every subject the 11+ tests: Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning, plus comprehension passages and a bonus Antonyms & Synonyms pack — over 8k expertly written questions in total.

How does the AI tutor work?

When your child answers a question incorrectly, the AI tutor opens an up-to-4-step Socratic walkthrough that asks guiding questions to lead them to the answer themselves, rather than simply telling them the solution.

How does adaptive difficulty work?

Difficulty quietly adjusts to your child's level after every session, moving between Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, so practice is never too easy and never disheartening.

How do comprehension passages work?

Comprehension questions are based on reading passages that open in a pop-up panel alongside the questions, so your child can refer back to the text while they answer. Comprehension is a Premium feature.

What are timed tests?

Timed tests recreate real exam conditions — choose 30, 40 or 50 questions at one minute per question across multiple subjects. There's no tutor during the test, but your child gets a full AI-written review of every wrong answer afterwards.

How can I see how my child is doing?

The Progress page shows accuracy by subject and topic, practice history and trends over time, so you can spot strengths and the areas that need more work at a glance.

What is the mistake tracker?

Every wrong answer is logged in the mistake tracker, which groups them by topic and generates an AI coach summary plus suggested themed tests targeting your child's weakest areas.

Are there rewards to keep my child motivated?

Yes. Correct answers earn streaks, points and coins. Coins can be spent in the rewards shop on cosmetic-only unlocks such as avatars and colour themes — there's nothing that affects learning or costs real money.

Is my child's data safe?

We comply with the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code. We collect only what's needed to run the service, never sell personal data, and never use it for advertising or marketing profiling. Full details are in our Privacy Notice.

Do you show adverts to children?

No. There are no adverts anywhere in 11+ Mastermind, and we never use your child's data for advertising or marketing profiling.

How long do you keep our data?

We keep learning data while the account is active. If you delete the account, all personal data is removed within 30 days, except limited financial records we're legally required to keep for 6 years for tax purposes.

Can I see or delete the data you hold?

Yes. Once signed in you can view a copy of the data we hold, correct it, or delete the account and its personal data instantly from the Settings page. You can also contact us at support@11plusmastermind.com.

Why do you need a parent's consent?

Under UK GDPR a child must be 13 or over to consent to an online service on their own. For under-13s we ask for a parent or guardian's email at sign-up and hold the account in a pending state until you approve it.

How does parent approval work?

After your child signs up, the nominated parent or guardian receives an approval link. Until you approve, the account stays pending and your child can't use the practice features.

Can I withdraw consent later?

Yes. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us or by deleting the account from the Settings page, and the account will stop processing your child's data.

How much does Premium cost and can I cancel anytime?

Premium is £12.50 per month or £137.50 per year for unlimited questions, tests and AI tutoring. You can cancel any time from the billing portal.

What's the difference between free and Premium?

Free gives every child 10 questions per topic plus one untimed test set. Premium unlocks every question, every timed test, comprehension passages and unlimited AI tutoring across all subjects.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Open the Pricing page while signed in and use the billing portal to update your payment details, switch between monthly and yearly, or cancel. Cancelling stops future charges and Premium stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for.

Do you offer refunds?

Because there's a generous free tier to try before you buy, we don't routinely refund. If something has gone wrong with your subscription, email support@11plusmastermind.com and we'll put it right.

Which exam boards and regions do you cover?

Our questions cover the core 11+ skills tested by the main boards — GL Assessment, CEM and ISEB — across Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning, so the practice transfers to grammar school entrance exams across England.

Do you cover independent school entrance exams?

Yes. The same core subjects and reasoning skills are tested by most independent (private) school entrance exams, so 11+ Mastermind is good preparation for those as well as grammar schools.

Is the practice suitable for my region's grammar schools?

Most regional grammar schools draw on the same underlying skills in Maths, English and reasoning. We focus on building those core skills thoroughly rather than tailoring to a single local format, which makes the practice broadly applicable.
